When I first got my camera last October, I promised my friends Matt and Erin two engagement shoots, one in the fall and one in the spring. We did the first shoot in November, and it was the first official photoshoot I had ever done with my first actual DSLR. I learned two things from that shoot: 1) I was proud of images I made, and 2) I knew I could learn to do better. Matt and Erin got married at the end of May, and since they were so busy all spring with job applications, Erin's graduation, and preparing to move, we didn't find any time to do their second photo shoot before the wedding... so, we did it afterward. We walked around downtown Lexington, and I took them to some places I had in mind, as well as some places I happened to see while we were walking. This first image is my favorite. The courthouse fountains on Limestone are a gorgeous place to shoot, and lots of fun! I did about 98% of the editing for this session in Lightroom. I boosted the contrast and added some fill light in LR, then took this image into Photoshop and added a multiply layer and an overlay layer at low opacities to give it a really high contrast that I just couldn't get in LR. I am very proud of the images I got on this second photo shoot, and I can tell that I have become a better photographer. But... I'm still learning. :) Here are a few of my favorite images. Let me know what you think.
Courthouse steps.
In front of the fountain again... Erin had conveniently brought the most perfect pink umbrella!
I've always loved photos involving a crosswalk.
This is a photo idea I've had for a long time, just had to find someone with a motorcycle. :)
Yes, I definitely borrowed this idea from my mentor, Frank Becker. Just using it as a jumping off point to find my own creative vision.
Fantastic work Maria! That first image and also the fourth, both favorites of mine. Great composition and excellent moments captured. That first image deserves to be hanging on their wall in a nice big 16x24 fine art print or canvas wrap! Great job!

ReplyDeleteThe photos were fun to look at and showed the love between Matt and Erin. My favorite was the umbrella shot. Or maybe the motercycle/mirror shot.
I am Matts sister and Erins new sister-in-law and those pics brought tears to my eyes. What lucky ppl to have someone with such an eye and passion to expose them as they are. Thank you.
